Our students rose to the occasion raising Rs This went to meet the needs of 43 needy children at the B. Taking this one step further, a group of students visited the hospital on 27th July , and had the opportunity of seeing the patients as well as the care-givers in action.

This interaction further stimulated them to do more for the needy in society as well as encourage their peers to do so. Our goal was to collect Rs. On the 27th of July, these students were taken to the Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children in Parel, where they were shown a video on all the kinds of work done by the hospital. This hospital caters to most of the possible problems a child from newborns to 16 year olds can have.

The students learnt that their funds were utilized for the open heart surgeries of about 43 needy children at the hospital. These were very impressed with the SSD Social Service Department which donated clothes, toys and other forms of help to the families of patients who were from the lower strata of society.

Our group of 21 children was split into two in order to the see the various heart treatment related rooms. Our group was guided by Ms. Dhanashree, the "open heart surgery coordinator". They saw equipments, like ECG monitors, baby weighing scales, an incubator, and many others. Our heart melted when we saw tiny babies with oxygen masks, nebulizers, saline intravenous, and bandages.

To see a little, doll-like infant in an incubator was depressing. It was one of those times when I felt how lucky I am as an individual, who is fit and fine, can walk, talk, sit, eat on my own, play , go to a good school and live in a good house. When you see children who are extremely thin or weak due to a medical issue or are extremely small, it pierces your heart. When we saw the children who were helped by our funds, we felt so proud and happy.

All we prayed for, at that moment was the quick recovery of those adorable children. I wish good health and life to them and that they can do all the things a physically normal child can do. I am really glad with what BJ Wadia Hospital is doing for children and what they are giving back to the society. A video to understand the concept of victim, bully, bystander and accessories was shown to the students. The workshop ended with a question-answer session. The Speaker highlighted the importance of digital privacy as he asked the students to introspect their online behaviour while being on popular social media sites.

He also spoke to them about digital consumer behavior, advertisements on facebook, customized ads and being safe online. The importance of being safe was highlighted through a presentation on bus rules that must be followed by the students. The students highlighted the importance of having rules by reciting a poem and also enacted a scene on road safety.

They concluded their presentation with a dance. Never Give Up Highlights: Students focussed on always standing tall and being positive. They gave examples of people from different spheres of life who never gave up in spite of obstacles and are successful today.

Students learnt about its varied services, the availability of resources and how one can access it. The 'Conservation Lab' of Asiatic Library where scientific methods are used to preserve old books fascinated them. Students learnt about the resources available at the Asiatic Library. They appreciated the scientific treatment used to conserve old books, manuscripts, newspapers and journals. Students learnt to identify various trees and plants by observation and learnt the scientific and common names of all the trees and plants observed.

Students learnt about acrylic painting on canvas and how to make flowers using stocking material. Students learnt how solar panels transformed the lives of villagers who have lived without electricity in the past. Students witnessed an active solar plant and learnt about solar panels, storage and distribution of solar energy.

Adventure Plus, Bhor Highlights: Students took part in various adventure activities like rappelling, Burma bridge, rock climbing, rifle shooting, etc. They also visited the Rajiv Gandhi Zoo and snake park. Willy Wonka and the Chocolatiers Venue: The tiny Scots go on a sugar rush of an adventure filled with important life lessons covered in delicious chocolate.

A dollop of right behavior and cup full of kindness make for the best kind of chocolatey-goodness! The last day was an open day where the students put up a presentation for their parents. Bridge stimulates both the left and right sides of the brain, improving skills in concentration, imagination, lateral thinking, articulation, cooperation, patience, memory and psychology.

The students of Grades 6 and 7 took to Bridge class most enthusiastically. Many left that the game made them think of new strategies and that even if they were at a disadvantage, the game could still be won. It kept them on their toes as they had to come up with innovative moves, while interpreting those of their opponents'. They learnt the art of speculating and the direction in which they had to be placed. The game come as a heartening relief from the many other online games played in solitary.

The students in their discussion felt that it was not so much the protest, as much as it was the reason justified and the manner of the protest that needed to be thought of.

Protests ought to be non-disruptive, non-violent and not held as a mindless display of emotions. A shadow act helped portray the painful separation of his parents which left him traumatized and led him to commit crimes.

Through the story, the students depicted a court scene where the prosecution and the defense argued whether the Juvenile should be tried as an adult. The students were well versed with the recent rulings. They highlighted the rise in the juvenile crime rate over the decades with the help of a presentation.

The most recent cases were also discussed in an interactive session and the students were also given ways to handle their emotions. This year, Kahoot was also used to churn out the Inter- house General Knowledge mavens for the year The teacher customized a quiz with questions from varied fields. The best part of the quiz was the spontaneity in which students answered the questions as that determined their scores. The Principal urged the audience to reflect on their responsibilities towards the nation before demanding their rights. With a view to take the E. Children visited the national park on 21st February for a field trip. They learnt that national parks are made to protect animals that live inside them. The park gave an insight to the children about the life of animals. They enjoyed the greenery and all the tall trees and saw different kinds of plants. The children were taken in a bus deep inside the forest to see the animals. They saw a tiger walking majestically towards the pond.

They were thrilled to see the lion, lioness, tigress and the deer running into the woods. Children visited the information center where lots of pictures were displayed of different animals like the tigers and their cubs different types of snakes and monkeys.

The preserved body of the lion and the tiger was also kept in a glass case. Later a video clip was shown about the national park which gave the children a brief idea on how the animals are looked after. The trip was followed by classroom discussion and a worksheet to consolidate the learning. This is a man-made forest built on a garbage dump. The children reached the venue at 9: They were briefed about the nature park and the various species of plants, animals, insects and reptiles found in the park through a slideshow.

They were then divided into five groups, each group was escorted by a guide and a teacher. The guides explained about the varieties of plants and trees that the children came across on their way on the nature trail. The students saw the butterfly garden, the Nakshatra garden, etc. The students were also sensitized about the deteriorating state of environment by showing them about the present state of the Mithi river.

The guides also explained about the various water harvesting techniques used, eco-friendly colours made out of certain flowers and the importance of preserving the habitat of animals. The trail got over by 1. They returned to school by 2.

All the athletes having won in various categories marched upright with their heads held high in pride. The prize distribution ceremony which followed was the most cheered event. PT Display by Grades 1 and 2 was performed on drumbeats followed by the song "Happy" using dumbbells decorated with yellow ribbons. The highlights of the meet were there was a torch run by the achievers of Sports: March-past by grades 4 and 5. Grade 3 showcased synchronization, harmony and physical endurance using tambourine for their drill. Each grade took part in the flat races Every child participated in the flat race and they were felicitated with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

This was followed by theme race. All the children were awarded medals for completing the theme race. After a quick breakfast at the venue, the children assembled in the ground. The students were taken on a trek in the forest near the campsite. It was a rocky terrain but the feeling of getting closer to Mother earth was overwhelming.

Trekking further the children found the Burma Bridge- a rope walking activity for the thrill seekers. Initially it seemed very scary walking on a rope at a height but surprisingly one by one all the students were able to cross it successfully. Each activity was preceded by a demonstration. Thorough safety measures were ensured for everyone. Zip lining, Rapling and Tarzan swing were other activities that were conducted Activities such as Archery and treasure hunt followed a sumptuous vegetarian lunch.

Class 6A was the winner in the treasure hunt. After evening snacks everyone proceeded to Monteria Resort. Thrilling DJ night was followed by dinner. The resort had adventure sports such as Burma Bridge ,Tyre swings and Body zorbing. The students participated in these sports on day two We left for Mumbai after lunch. The students were dispersed from school by 4: On 9th February, a Friday, fifty eight students of grade seven accompanied by four teachers embarked upon a journey to this location at Igatpuri.

The students were colour coded in blue on day one in order to keep discipline. Soon after lunch they visited the Randha falls and the Wilson Dam- the largest earth Dam built by the British depicting engineering excellence. The base of the dam has a garden that boasts of thick greenery, huge trees and little streams Later in the evening the students visited an Ashram School near the resort and interacted with the students of the school.

On day two, soon after breakfast students and teachers went trekking to the Kalsubai peak which is the highest peak of the Sahyadri Ranges. The view of this majestic mountain is an amazing sight in Bhandardara. Grade 7, reached school at 8: Started our journey at 7: We stopped at the Monteria resort for breakfast and then headed towards Zara's Resort. Post lunch, we went to Della Adventure Park. The students were queued up and given safety instructions and an entry wrist band.

They had the liberty to choose 8 activities of the 42 activities made available there. After a day of fun filled adventures, we returned to the resort.

The students freshened up and day 1 came to a close with a rocking DJ nite. The next day began with a visit to the Karla Caves where our enthusiastic students climbed up steps leading to a complex of ancient Buddhist Indian Rock-Cut caves.

The students admired the historical structures depicting the architectural skills of a period stretching from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD. Our next stop over was the wax museum , where students clicked pictures with wax models of celebrities such as Messi, Amitabh Bachchan , Beyonce, Prince Willam and Kate, Jackie Chan, Ranbir Kapoor etc.

Students of Grade 2 took the topic of shopping to a whole new level when they were asked to get empty cartons of different products and duplicate Indian currency notes. The cartons were collected a week prior to the day of activity. The products were displayed and the children role played as customers and shopkeepers. The customers exchanged currency and took the change for the products purchased by them. The shopkeeper in turn scanned the products and prepared bills for the same.

The students debated on the advantages and disadvantages of viewing television. The debate also helped in sensitizing the students about effective and meaningful use of Visual Media. The children greeted each other by saying hello. They also went around greeting other classmates from other sections of the same grade.

They made and exchanged cards with their friends. They came dressed in coloured clothes and enjoyed a morning of food, music, dance and fun. The day began with the assembly that highlighted the story of Christmas. It was a great start to the Winter Break. They began by greeting the audience and moved into the first act which was a fire drill, where students followed all the safety rules well which helped them exit the building safely. A few students then explained the importance and need for school safety by giving examples.

This was followed by an enactment through which the importance of safety was conveyed. The students brought out a valuable point that school safety is not possible without complete cooperation from everyone i. The students concluded the presentation by singing the song 'In Harmony' which ended with a rap song. At the end of the 'Lens It' the Principal shared her words of wisdom with all; highlighting the importance of school safety and how we as individuals need to take initiative to be safe at all times.

A debate was presented on the advantages and disadvantages of the use of gadgets. A small skit by the students showcased the importance of family and friends over gadgets and technology. They spoke on the reservation of seats in educational institutes and government jobs. This presentation started with a song, followed by two skits which highlighted the apathy of students when it comes to admissions in various government colleges for professional courses.

This question answer session was supported by a power point presentation. The presentation started with a depiction of the behaviour of students in class when they do not respect the teachers, each other and the school. This was followed by a panel discussion where people from different segments of the society parents, grandparents, paediatricians and counsellors expressed their views on the causes of such behaviour in class.

The session concluded with the message: Respect yourself, respect others and take responsibility for your actions. This adage was taken up by the students to show its relevance in various fields of life, that is, in education, marketing and environment. The presentation started with a video that was shot by the students themselves, showing the different ways students littered their surroundings.

The video headed the discussion forward and the students introduced the concept of thinking globally and acting locally. Case study of McDonalds in India was discussed.

Interviews of school staff and the school captain were also taken to understand their role in bringing in a change in students' life with regard to acting locally for a better global perspective. The session concluded with the students listing various ways in which each one of us can make a difference in the world with their small yet significant actions.

A question and answer session was also conducted where the audience was encouraged to ask questions regarding the topic and presentation. It did not just reveal the military aspect, but also reflected upon the combat faced by women in every sphere of life. The presentation started with a brainstorming session on women in history who have made a mark in combat, followed by a skit and an debate on the topic: Should Women be allowed to enlist themselves in the Defence Services?

It was a heated discussion which got the audience completely engrossed in the variety of views being presented. The school launched 'The Global Scholars Programme that spans more than 10, students in the age groups of from 50 large cities across five continents.

As a part of this program 15 students of Grade 7 from the school under the guidance of the school teachers will communicate with students around the world. This year's curriculum is "Feeding Our Cities. They will learn about nutrition and food access and their influence on public health, and discover the complex systems needed to grow and distribute food to the world. As a part of the programme the students will write, create videos and use other technology to complete assignments, sharing them with students around the world through Global Scholars "e-classroom.

It also strengthens students' skills in technology, communication skills in English, and understanding different perspectives. They will also take photos or record videos, and gather information, in order to create a presentation to share with international peers. By exchanging perspective, students will build an understanding of global issues and local cultures.

They enlightened the students about the different types of bombs used by terror outfits and gave reasons as to why unclaimed objects need not be touched. Real life incidents were narrated to create awareness among the youth. Problem statements were made and children were probed with questions so as to check their alertness and awareness on certain issues. At the end, Sr. Purewal stressed on why security rules plays an important role in each one's life. Kumar - Fabric Designer who shared their experiences with the students.

It was organized by Pearson and the speaker was Ms. The resource person emphasized the need for being patient while teaching English language particularly since many students are not native speakers of the language.

They visited the INS Chennai warship. The students enjoyed the rich feel of the warships. Each of the warships weighed about tones. They were shown the helipad and the hangar for helicopters, as well the missiles in different docks, for long range ,short range and degree rotation ,the radar to receive and transmit messages, anchor and the control room.

They learnt about the hard life of the security forces and were moved with the sacrifice they do for the nation. Overall the experience was enriching, as it created a respect and sensitivity to the community that serves our nation. It is important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. The programme was organized by 'Swades Foundation'. The students were divided into groups to conduct several activities for the rural children of the school. On their arrival, they were given a warm welcome by the principal, staff and students of the New English School.

During the 3 days, the students had prepared worksheets to teach mathematics and hygiene, engaged in role plays, explained the importance of nutrition and immunisation, visited houses and performed street plays to create an awareness of anaemia.

They also demonstrated science experiments. Our students not only taught the rural children but also learnt a lot from them especially the fact that a lot of learning can happen outdoors rather than spending time with gadgets. They made charts, flash cards and IEC paint material for the primary kids.

A strong bond was developed between our students and the students of New English School, Ravdhal. Each student chose two events to participate based on their interest and talent. It was a part of the Mumbai Film Festival. The director and the producer of the movie were both present as it was a Premier show. The movie was an impactful story about two 8 year olds- Channi and Balu who live in a drought stricken village in Maharashtra.

The difficulties they face in everyday life and yet, the childlike innocence the two kids exuberate resonated with the viewers. There was a lot of interaction post the screening between the students, the director and the producer on various creative and technical aspects of the movie. The students enjoyed the movie very much. Appropriate instructions along with printed hand outs were provided to the students.

The students were asked to recognize the land marks enroute to Nehru Science Centre. At the Science Centre, the students were asked to observe certain exhibits and jot down pointers. Students were required to use mathematics, sciences and social studies concept to complete a worksheet based on these exhibits. They were also asked to describe the nuances of the trip in Hindi and Marathi as part of this activity. The trip followed interdisciplinary approach. The methodology that was used was learning through observation.

Each student was given a handout. A similar workshop was conducted for the students of Grade 4 on 10th October In accordance with the International Day of Peace September 21 and International Day of Non-Violence Oct 2 , the workshop focused on the themes of peace, violence, and how to promote harmony. The students and their parents listened to a reading of selected poems from the collection 'Peaceful Pieces' by Anna Grossnickle Hines. After an interactive discussion on the poems, the parents and children collaborated and created their own peace poems which expressed their take on peace and how to maintain it.

They created collage art illustrations to decorate their work. This was held at BSS, Mahim. Anuradha Mukherjee and Ms. Tracy Pereira attended a Social Studies Workshop held by The workshop dealt with educational pedagogies such as classroom management, classroom rules, technology based teaching, etc. New techniques like flipped classroom and use of graphic organizers as teachings tools were discussed in detail with the help of relevant examples.

The teachers were divided into small groups and each group presented some effective teaching techniques to deliver topics ranging from the Mesopotamian Civilization to the Thar Desert and Rural-Urban Migration. Scenes like shutting the tap in the washrooms, using less water while washing vessels and brushing teeth were enacted.

Issues like lack of water in some parts of the country and the problems faced by farmers due to lack of water were also highlighted. A class debate too was enacted by the students to sum up all the points if the role-play. They analysed the various causes of the environmental problems and also provided possible solutions with a lot of conviction. It was an enlightening teaching-learning experience for the teachers and students alike.

On the day of the activity they brought the plant to school and spoke about their observations. Each child took great care of their plant and watered it daily. They also learnt about the importance of growing a plant and they promised they would grow at least one plant every year on their birthday.
